If You Were Me... by Sam Osman

I write Young Adult crime thrillers and I’m going to tell you about my new book If You Were Me.

It’s about a girl called Aliya whose family are forced to flee Afghanistan because the Taliban want to punish her brother, Behrouz for working as an interpreter for the British troops. They come to London full of hope and excitement about the new life they are going to lead but three weeks after they arrive Behrouz is injured when a garage full of bomb making equipment explodes.

The problem is, his fingerprints are found  all over the detonators and the whole world thinks he is a terrorist. The police  think that Aliya may have been radicalised too. Then she meets Dan, the son of a plumber who comes to mend a leak in her flat and the best way to sum up what happens next is to let you see the draft of the script I am writing for the trailer.

Aliya’s voice over : We Fled Afghanistan to  seek safety in London.

That’s not what we found.

What would you do if your brother was accused of being a bomb maker?.

What would you do if you were sure he was innocent?

What would you do if you were me?

Dan’s voice over: What would you do if you knew her brother was innocent?

What would you do if telling the truth would hurt the ones you love?

What would you do if you were me?

The brilliant young film maker George O’Regan, who made the trailer for Chasing the Dark v=wgfYqaGODhA, is making this one too. So watch this space!
